  HYPNOSIS (1984) The Los Angeles Freeway Killer (Leonard Lumpkin) takes a 
 drive to Las Vegas...and back. This video by Ken Camp is both trancelike a
 nd troubling\, taking the viewer across the desert of California\, through
  Nevada\, and into 'the frightening zone where lay the genetic codes and m
 emories that make us all killers.' Unseen since its 1984 premiere at West 
 Hollywood's EZTV Video Gallery\, Ken Camp's Highway Hypnosis is a disturbi
 ng meditation on the eroticism of violence and a major work of both narrat
 ive video art and queer horror. New digital preservation from the original
  3/4' tape master. AS THE WORLD BURNS It's the Reagan years...and all of t
 he men in the neighborhood are mysteriously beginning to turn gay. As Robi
 n's terminally unemployed husband Lenny begins shifting his attention away
  from the job hunt and towards the local trade(smen)\, she finds herself h
 aving to hit the streets to bring home the bacon. Meanwhile\, Lorraine's h
 usband Ben has mysteriously gone missing and Linnea just can't seem to fin
 d anyone who'll let her borrow a cup of detergent. And what role does the 
 Gay Neighbor play in all of this? Commissioned by videomaker John Dorr for
  EZTV's inaugural screenings at the West Hollywood Community Center in 198
 2\, Ken Camp's As the World Burns is an experimental three-part gay soap o
 pera that was made using early consumer video equipment for the low cost o
 f just .88 (the 88 cents were for the special effects). A wickedly funny s
 atire on the narrative and aesthetic conventions of soaps\, the banality o
 f mainstream gay culture\, and America's rightward shift at the turn of th
 e 80s\, As the World Burns is also perhaps the very first piece of media t
 o explicitly reference the then-nascent AIDS epidemic. New digital preserv
